The act of allyship involves no real risk. It is one that is performed from the safety of one’s comfort zone of privilege.
I want to do more than talk the talk. I want to be of help. I want to move my privilege so that it does not sit with me. I want to participate even when the work is risky and hard.
But I also recognize that the fact that I need to take time to learn and do my work is key to what happens next. And it is also sad that I haven’t done it before. Not with any intentionality.
