Advent 2016: Born on This Day!

Readings: Isaiah 52:7-10; Psalm 98; Hebrews 1: 1-12; John 1:1-14

This is the day we wait for during Advent. The day that Jesus is born and we are filled with hope, joy, peace, and love. The day when all things can be made new because God has sent a new energy…a new spirit…a new human into the world to give hope and offer salvation from the meanness and unkindness of the world.

This is what we wait for!

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. (Psalm 98:4)

The world feels volatile, angry, and very uncertain. And while our version of this is new, the world’s pain is not. That is why we needed the Christ Child. And why we need him still today.

He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:3a)

But today…on this day…let’s down our weapons, our hateful words, our hurt and pain, and remember:

…in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (John 1:4-5)

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
