Over the past few months I’ve explored my early commitment to church and some of the cult like tendencies that show up in patriarchal submission culture…and that has led me down a bit of a cult rabbit hole. NXIVM wasn’t religious but could be seen as self-help culture for sure. What resonates is that each of us MUST decide who or what we believe in and then walk away from organizations that attempt to control us by telling us what is wrong with us. If he talks like a scumbag, walks like a scumbag, and treats you like a scumbag…he’s not a guru or a pastor…he’s a scumbag!
