Hearing Voices – Your Authentic Voice

There is only one you.

That can be an amazing remind and it can be overwhelming. My hope is that even in your overwhelm you realize that the mere fact that you are here and we need your voice, is enough to spur you on to the next step.

What is the next step you ask?

Authenticity

Authenticity is the key to unlocking your voice. It’s about embracing your true self, without any masks or pretenses. When you fully embrace your authenticity, you give yourself permission to be genuine and true to who you are.
Authenticity should come from a place of values, passions, and personal experience. Along with our basic personality, these things shape us and give us a unique perspective. So go ahead…embrace your quirks, strengths, and imperfections – they are what make you unique and give your voice its distinct flavor.

Sounds easy enough…and yet so many of us hold back.

Society often dictates what is considered “normal” or “acceptable.” Finding your voice requires breaking free from these expectations and embracing your individuality. It will require you to challenge something that does not want to be challenged…conformity.
The truth is…the safety of conformity is an illusion. It can feel safe, but it often suffocates your true voice. One of the reasons I read so much is that other people’s stories (fiction and non-fiction) can give us inspiration by showing us what it looks like when individuals defy sociatal expectations and find their unique voice.

Self Expression & Overcoming Fear

Self-expression is the vehicle through which your voice finds its wings. It can take various forms, such as writing, art, music, public speaking, or even everyday conversations. Each of us needs to experiment with different modes of self-expression to find what resonates with us and makes us feel more free. As a start, set aside dedicated time for creative outlets or find supportive communities where you can freely express yourself. This can be different for each of us…but we all need others who support our exploration.

Without support, we can easily fall prey to one of the biggest obstacles to self-expression…fear of judgment. It’s natural to worry about what others may think or say about your voice. Reframe criticism as an opportunity for growth and learning rather than a reason to hold back. Embrace the belief that your unique perspective can inspire and resonate with others, regardless of judgment.

Authenticity often requires vulnerability – the willingness to be open and exposed. When you allow yourself to be vulnerable, you create an authentic space for others to connect with you on a genuine level. One of the great things about vulnerability is that when we take the risk, not only will your unique voice be heard, you will create a ripple effect of courage and authenticity.
